Lung Cancer

1st thing I wish I had known

Maybe this should be obvious but predisposition to certain cancers is hereditary. Knowing that my father's dad smoked and died young of lung cancer I could have supported him more in his efforts to stop smoking. I could have called him daily on any of the dozens of times he was trying to quit. I didn't and it still haunts me.

2nd thing I wish I had known

Ask if the facility has a device for video chatting with people who can’t be by the bedside. We only found this out at the end and my dad loved having something he could control.

3rd thing I wish I had known (plus any bonus thoughts)

Keep the patient supplied with drinks and snacks approved by the staff. If you can bring in a mini-fridge or a cooler, why not?
